It's about time for Gertie the Groundhog to make her official forecast at Wildlife Prairie State Park. Remember Gertie's forecast last year?
It came on the heels of the blizzard of 2011...officially 15 inches of snow with a peak wind gust of 52 miles an hour.
NBC's Willard Scott remembers. His Today Show segment was live from Wildlife Prairie State Park.
"I've been around a long time and I've never seen anything quite like that," Scott tells WMBD's Greg and Dan. "We went out to dinner the night before and the wind...when I got out of the car the wind blew me, and I'm big."
"I've done those before but never anything like last year, last year goes into the books," continues Scott. "I had a good time I felt the people's love."
"I felt like my act played in Peoria, so I feel like I'm a success."
Scott won't be here this year, but, the weather for Gertie should be better in 2012. Partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low to mid 30's should greet Gertie for her annual forecast.
