Sam LaHood Speaks To FOX About His Current Plight In Egypt
Sam LaHood comments on his current plight in Egypt. The country is bagging 10 Americans and European pro-democracy activists from leaving over concerns about their coordinated job to a help Egypt with transition to democracy. Sam LaHood a Peoria native and son of Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood, is one of those that isn't being allowed to leave.
Sam LaHood was told a week ago he could not board a flight to Dubai. Lahood officially is not being detained. He still has his passport. But, he and the others are not being allowed free travel out of the country. Sam LaHood spokes with FOX News Radio's Catherine Herridge. He says this situation could possibly come to trial which could last up to a year. The penalties carry jail terms from six months up to five years.
LaHood says his family is concerned for his safety, while he currently does not feel unsafe himself. But, Sam LaHood says it is a little scary, to think about the Egyptian allegations against not only his company, but other Egyptians trying to assist in forming a Democary there. Sam LaHood works for the non-governmenttal organization the International Republican Institute.
