Three Peoria County Sheriff's employees were injured Thursday by an inmate getting ready for transfer to prison.
The Journal Star reports inmate Edjuan Payne assaulted jailers after being taken out of his cell. One of the employees had to be taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released. Two others received treatment at the scene.
Payne was convicted in Peoria County court earlier this month for the death of Orvette Davis nearly two years ago in Peoria's North Valley. It was his second murder conviction and Payne was sentenced to life in prison.
The incident will go the Peoria County State's Attorney for review to see if any additional charges will be filed against Payne.
