An official closing date for the city of Peoria's downtown redevelopment project likely will be delayed again. City officials indicate developer Gary Matthews has indicated he will not be ready to close on the purchase of the Pere Marquette by January 31st.  That's the hard date the city gave Matthews to sign, or the city could back out, no strings attached. 

Sources told 1470 WMBD News this week the extra delay is nothing other than the more batches of legal papers to sift through, so the city and Matthews need more time to tie up the loose ends before closing. The City Council will be asked to approve the delay at the next city council meeting Tuesday.
