Republicans are denouncing President Barack Obama's decision to reject a plan for an oil pipeline from Canada to Texas. House Speaker John Boehner says Obama is breaking his promises to create jobs. Obama says he's turning down the project not because it isn't worthy, but because Republicans set a February deadline for him to make a decision. And he says there wasn't time for a full review.
Both local Republican federal legislators are also disappointed. 18th District's Aaron Schock says this hurts local manufacturers, sure to benefit by the project. 17th District's Bobby Schilling tells 1470 WMBD's Scott Robbiins this is a great privatized plan. Schilling thinks the President is positioning for the election by catering to the environmentalists.
The 1,700-mile pipeline would carry oil from tar sands in western Canada to refineries in Texas. It would pass through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma.
