This is the 17th year Peoria native Jim Thome has been closely involved with a charity function close to his heart. Thomes hosted the Joyce Thome Benefit for Children's Hospital of Illinois Saturday night at the Peoria Civic Center. Thome continues the benefit for two reasons. To raise money for the cause and to continue to honor his mother.
Thome spoke with news partner WEEK News 25 minutes before the function started. The event has raised over 2 and a half million dollars for Childrens Hospital since it's inception.
