Tidwell-Johns Death Ruled a Homicide

The complicated death of a Peoria teen has been ruled a homicide by a Peoria County Coroner's Jury.  The jury ruled Thursday 16 year old Jaquille Tidwell Johns died from head injuries due to blunt force trauma.  Johns was allegedly beaten by Willie Mason, who is charged with second degree murder.

The incident occurred in November when Johns and a young friend were found inside a vacant home by Mason, who is the the owner.  Both boys attempted to flee, but Mason is reported to have caught Johns, while the other teen escaped.  Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says Johns was struck in the head with a large stick.

Johns died from his injuries 8 days later, when he taken off life support.  Mason remains in Peoria County Jail on the murder charges.
