Blues lose in OT - Blackhawks, Rivermen win

(AP) - Daniel Sedin scored a power-play goal 46 seconds into overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night in a matchup for first place in the Western Conference. Alexandre Burrows had two goals and drew the decisive penalty for the Canucks, who have an NHL-best 59 points - three more than St. Louis. David Backes was whistled for boarding with 19.9 seconds to go in regulation, and the Blues were in disarray in overtime after defenseman Roman Polak broke his stick shortly before Sedin beat Brian Elliott from the right faceoff dot. Jason Arnott scored both goals for the Blues, who lead the Central Division by a point despite the end of a four-game winning streak. Snow and icy conditions likely prevented a sellout with attendance of 18,231 less than 1,000 shy of capacity.

(AP) - Dave Bolland had two goals, and rookie Jimmy Hayes and Viktor Stalberg scored 23 seconds apart in a three-goal second period as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Minnesota Wild 5-2 on Thursday night. Bolland scored on the power play in the second and added an empty-net goal with 1:26 to play. Another Blackhawks rookie, Andrew Shaw, also had a goal. Devin Setoguchi had the game's first goal for Minnesota, and Kyle Brodziak added a rebound tally in the third period for the Wild. Hayes scored the tiebreaker on the power play as he stood in front of the crease and took a nifty pass from Bolland, who was behind the net. That made it 2-1, and just 23 seconds later, Stalberg received a pass from Jonathan Toews, and his shot in the slot apparently deflected off goalie Josh Harding's glove and into the net.

(From Peoria Rivermen) - The Peoria Rivermen won the 38th game of the season with a 38-save performance from goaltender Ben Bishop in a 4-0 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters at Carver Arena on Thursday night. The shutout for Bishop was his league-leading sixth of the season, twice as many as any other goaltender, and 16th win which is also tied for the AHL’s best. The Rivermen fired a season-high 44 shots on goal, while the power play converted twice on six opportunities. The Rivermen play the first of back-to-back games with the Houston Aeros at Carver Arena Friday night.
