(From WEEK News 25) - Peoria officials have taken precautions by preparing snow plow crews.
Peoria Public Works Spokesman says the city will mobilize crews once snow fall reaches 2 inches of accumulation.
"If we get into a heavy snowfall, we will treat those primary streets one time, eliminate that bond, and then we put the plows down and keep them down," says David Haste, Peoria Public Works Dept.
In the event of a heavy snow storm, plow trucks will conduct basic work on the primary streets throughout the storm, focusing on residential areas secondarily.
Once those roads are clear, the trucks will resume work on the primary streets.
The huge salt dome just off I-74 has over 9,000 tons of salt mixture, with more stockpiles around the city.
"We'll have 24 trucks out by early morning. We'll have four wheel loaders out in different locations to load material," says Haste.
"We actually have a salt-slag mix. It's a steel slag that we get, it's a little cheaper than sand, and just a way to be more efficient."
