Winter Weather Advisory until 6:00 a.m. Friday

Peoria and Central Illinois is under a Winter Weather Advisory until 6:00 Friday morning. It's because of the first winter storm of the season.

Sustained winds began early Thursday, then the snow. Three to five inches was expected along and north of I-74.

News 25/HOI 19 Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins says the advisory is in effect not only because of the snow, but also the wind.

"The accumulations expected are because of the duration of the storm. The storm system is not moving very fast, it's stuck and kind of spinning over the northeastern Great Lakes," Collins tells 1470 WMBD.

In addition, it will be cold - culture shock compared to Wednesday's high of 54 degrees. Wind chills will drop to around zero by tonight.
