You knew it was get here soon enough...snow. Old Man Winter is threatening to break our current streak of days without an inch of snow - today makes 318.
A strong cold front will sweep across the state tonight with snow starting west of the Illinois River before sunrise Thursday, spreading east across the remainder of the area during the morning.
The snow will continue into Thursday night, with accumulations ranging from an inch or two south of I-70 to 2 to 4 inches north I-74. There could also be some blowing and drifting snow Thursday afternoon and evening.
Plus, snow initially falling on unfrozen ground could cause some melting, forming a thin layer of ice before snow starts to accumulate.
Motorists are urged to prepare for slick travel and allow extra travel time from Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
