Hate Crimes Summit At ICC Draws State Attorney General

The consequences of bullying and other hate crimes can be serious and lasting.  That's the message Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan brought to the forum of a Hate Crimes Summit held at Illinois Central College Tuesday.  Madigan gave the keytone address in front of community activists, ministers, educators and law enforcement officials in a effort to get them up to speed on how to deal with the issue.

U-S Attorney For the Central Illinois District Jim Lewis put together the Summit.  Lewis says cyber bullying follows the pattern of domestic abuse and sex crimes, where not all cases come to the forefront because of fear. ewis says other than the groups attending the ecent, parents can play a huge role in helping their children bring the issue forward if they are a victim.

Madigan says the latest surveys show almost 40 percent of school age children fear going to class because of the threat of bullying and other hate crimes.
