Administrators and teachers within Peoria Public Schools are preparing for the rest of this school year and next.
Superintendent Grenita Lathan says it hoped registration for next school year can be completed by the end of February.
To that end, curriculum fairs are planned later this month at District 150's three high schools and the Woodruff Career and Technical Center. "Our arriving 9th graders and our other high school students can get prepared to register for their course for next year," Lathan tells 1470 WMBD.
Lathan says, in addition, "Later in the year our 8th graders will have an opportunity to tour the high school they will be attending and high school students will have the opportunity to tour Woodruff Career and Technology Center.
Lathan says the goal is to have student registration for next fall completed by the end of February. "We can look at our teacher allotments for next fall," says Lathan, "look our courses, get all of our materials ordered and arrange for professional development for teachers for next school year."
Lathan has a message to parents ahead the start of the second semester. "Truly communicate with the classroom teacher," says Lathan. "If there are issues or concerns about student achievement please talk to the teacher first to see what they can do to develop a plan of success for that child."
Classes resume in District 150 next Tuesday.
