Woman Faces Homicide Charges For Death Of Her Marquette Heights Mother
A Milwaukee woman has been charged with two counts of first degree murder for the recent death of her Marquette Heights mother. 43 year old Gina Gonzalez reamins in Tazewell County Jail where she was originally charged with domestic battery following an alleged altercation with her mother, 70 year old Quyen Phan on December 19th. Phan was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Medical Center 4 days later, apparently from injuries sustained.
Tazewell County prosecuters say Gonzalez and Phan got into an argument in the mother's home at 201 Lincoln Road in Marquette Heights on the 19th. Gonzalez told officers Phan swung a chair at her, then falling, hitting her head on the floor. The daughter says her mother complained of a headache and nausea, but refused treatment. Gonzales says she then left for Milwaukee and returned to her mother's house two days later, on the 21st. There, she found her mother in bed unresponsive. Phan was taken first to Pekin Hospital, then transferred to OSF in Peoria. Phan was pronounced dead two days later at 225am on the 23rd.
Tazewell prosecutors say Gonzalez later admitted she possibly pushed her mother to the floor during the incident. Doctors state Phan had suffered severe brain injuries and body bruises, incosistent with someone falling and hitting their head. Gonzalez will next be in court January 5th.
