17th and 18th District primaries set

There's plenty of interest in the 18th District Congressional seat now occupied by Peoria Republican Aaron Schock. Tuesday was the deadline for nominating petitions to be submitted for the March Primary.

Schock wants to keep his job and he will face a primary challenge for the Republican nomination by Darrel Miller of Danvers.

There will be a Democratic primary, as well, between Matt Woodmancy of Pekin and Steve Waterworth of Easton.

The newly drawn 18th District includes Peoria north of War Memorial Drive, most of Peoria and Tazewell Counties, part of Stark County and all of Woodford and Marshall Counties.

The 17th District will see a Democratic primary between East Moline Alderwoman Cheri Bustos, Freeport Mayor George Gaulrapp and Augustana College administrator Greg Aguilar for the right to challenge Republican incumbent Bobby Schilling in November.

The 17th District includes Peoria mainly south of War Memorial, the southern part of Peoria county, part of Tazewell County and all of Knox and Fulton counties.
