The nation's airlines are predicting nearly 43-million travelers will fly to their holiday destinations. Peoria International Airport Director Gene Olsen says it's important you arrive at the airport early - at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure.
"The thing to remember about that is the airlines usually do not have a whole lot of empty seats," says Olson. "So if someone should happen to miss their flight it's going to be very difficult to find a spare seat."
To make sure you know what to pack and not to pack in your carry on luggage check the tip for travelers link online at www.tsa.gov.
"Especially at Christmastime we tell everyone not to wrap their gifts before they get to airport because TSA may make you unwrap them," Olson says.
And, Olson says, as an added precaution do not have any valuable items in your checked baggage. "Again, the bag could be opened and you never know who has access to your bag once it leaves your sight."
Olson says you can check your flight status online or on your phone through your particular airline's website or 800 number.
The demolition of the old airport terminal will not hamper holiday travelers. The FAA has put a moratorium on that work through January 3rd.
