One of the special speakers the ribbon cutting for the new cancer research center in Peoria Monday reflected on the way the process of building the facility started.
Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood was still 18th District Congressman when he and other lawmakers met to figure out ways to fund the center. LaHood says it is nice to see the idea now become reality. He says this facility will help researchers find treatment and cures for cancer, which is extraordinary.
He says this is the best Christmas present the community could get because everyone has been affected by cancer in their lives and a cure could be found right here in Central Illinois.
