Hearing Aid Users To Soon Get Relief From Loud TV Commercials

An issue virtually everybody notices when watching TV is the occasional loud commercials.  That problem is about to end.  This week, the Federal Communications Commission approved a new regulations, directing all TV systems to maintain steady volume levels.

Audiologist Ann Elizabeth Jacobson with Illinois Neurological Institute in Peoria says all viewers notice it, but people with hearing aids are most affected by the volume differential.  Jacobson says the decibel level of loud commercials can be compared to someone suddenly shouting to a person with hearing aids.

TV operations will need to install the proper equipment to balance all audio levels.  The FCC is allowing operators one year to solve the issue.
