No one was injured in a fire at Westporte Apartments in Peoria early Tuesday morning. Peoria fire crews were called to 2805 Larchmont Lane about 2am on a report of an apartment fire.
Firefighters found a small kitchen fire in one of the units. It was extinguished with five minutes. The occupant of the apartment, Ali Hawija told firefighters he was cooking with oil in a pan and left the kitchen for a short time. When he returned, a fire had started on the stove.
Damage was estimated at $16,000.
