State lawmakers get wish list from city and county officials

Officials from both the city of Peoria and Peoria County gave their wish list to state legislators Friday for the upcoming year and a lot of the focus was on economic development.

Peoria County Administrator Lori Curtis Luther told the lawmakers more incentives need to be available to local municipalities to try to draw and keep businesses here. She says the financial support from the state needs to be there to compete with states nearby who currently offer those incentives.

Other items on the wish list included asking for legislative efforts to protect existing revenue going to local government. This includes ending the use of Personal Property Replacement Tax to pay for the Regional Office of Education.

One item on the list that does appear likely is the ability to place a referendum on the ballot for an upcoming election asking for a county wide election commission.
