Spreading the holiday spirit is the goal of Carl Cannon's ELITE program. This the 10th year the Peoria Park District's ELITE Youth Holiday Choir will visit various businesses, community organizations and public places supporting the program. Cannon tells WMBD's Greg and Dan he tells his kids they have a chance to save a life.
"To somebody who's depressed, lost a job or loved one or things just aren't going right," says Cannon, "when we can spread the spirit of the season with a smile it's life preserving."
The choir will visit 15 places throughout the Peoria area on five different days singing songs of the season. The group is made up of students from District 150's three high schools as well as Trewyn and Roosevelt Magnet School.
The choir, Tuesday through Friday, will visit places like Easter Seals, South Side Mission, Caterpillar and even the Peoria Police Department. This year's tour is sponsored by Peoria Charter Coach and Methodist Medical Center.
You can help out the ELITE program, too. Customers at Hy-Vee this month are being asked if they would like to donate one-dollar to the ELITE program after their transaction.
