The village of Morton has a new police chief. He is Craig Hilliard, who has been a full-time member of the Morton police department since 1986. The Village Board approved his promotion Monday. Hilliard has been serving as interim chief since Nick Graff retired in August. The Journal Star quotes Morton Mayor Norm Durflinger as saying Hilliard was the only candidate interviewed for the job and salary terms are still being negotiated.
