Pedestrian struck and killed in Peoria County

A Peoria man is dead after being struck by at least two vehicles on Plank Road in Peoria County. The Peoria County Coroner's office says a third vehicle may have been involved, but that driver left the scene.

43-year old Jose Cervantes was pronounced dead at the scene around 8:15 Tuesday night. Cervantes was walking along Plank Road around 7:00, about an hour after being released from the Peoria County Jail.

Cervantes was arrested by Peoria police in the 1200 block of Northeast Adams on a charge of criminal trespass to land. He was released on a notice to appear after he was booked. It's believed Cervantes may have stopped at a couple of establishments before he was struck.

The Coroner's office says earlier Tuesday, Peoria Heights police responded to disturbance calls involving Cervantes at the Stadium Club and Schooner's. Peoria Heights officers had taken him home.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
