Victim Dies From Gunshot Wounds Over 3 Weeks Following Incident
The victim of a shooting and robbery has died about three weeks following the incident. 45 year old Yahya Doud Mahmoud of Peoria, also known as "John" was pronounced dead at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, three days after being released from the hospital.
Peoria Police say Mahmoud was shot in the chest while sitting in his car with a woman in the 550 Block of East Republic in the early morning hours of November 4th. Reports says two people approached the vehicle and one of the subjects shot Mahmoud in the chest, then robbed him. The woman escaped the car.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says Mahmoud originally stayed in the hospital from the time of the incident until his released to go home last Wednesday. But, on Saturday, Mahmoud was found at home unresponsive, according to the Coroner.
Ingersoll says results of an autopsy show Mahmoud sustained much internal injury from the shooting. She says the cause of death was directly related to the injuries sustained from this chest wound.
