There are already some primary races taking shape on the first day of the filing period for the 2012 election.
Two candidates, as expected, have filed for the democratic nomination for 46th District State Senator. They are current Peoria County Board member Allen Mayer and former Peoria City Councilman Jim Polk.
The bid for the newly created 88th District State Representative seat pits the currently 106th District Representative Keith Sommer of Morton against Steve Perry of Bloomington in the Republican primary.
Mike Unes filed to run for another term as 91st District State Representative. He will be challenged in the general election by Democrat Jennifer Groves Allison of Peoria.
The 53rd Senate District, which covers parts of Woodford County has two Republicans on the ballot. They are Shane Cultra who was appointed to the seat after Dan Rutherford became State Treasurer and 105 District State Representative Jason Barickman of Champaign.
The filing period for the March 20th Primary runs through 5pm next Monday.
