Let the holiday shopping begin

Black Friday is underway. Long lines of customers were waiting for the doors to open at Midnight at Target and Best Buy. Those lines at both stores stretched to the rear of both buildings. The line nearly encirlced the building at Best Buy.

April Thompson of Peoria Heights was first in line at Target. She got there at Noon Thursday for that honor. Thompson says she's no stranger to wanting to be first in line on Black Friday. "I did this last year, I was here at 8:00 and they opened at 5:00," Thompson tells 1470 WMBD. "I was tenth."

What could possibly be the reason she would wait this long? "A TV and and X-box," says Thompson.

Tina Hamblin of Franklin, Tennessee is visiting friends. She was waiting at the back of the line at Target while her friends parked the car. "I'm waiting for them to show up and decide with me if it's worth this," Hamblin says.

But it's the lure of the savings that brings her to the line. "The doorbuster deal happens to be the one thing my daughter wants for Christmas, and it's a one-hundred dollar savings," says Hamblin, "so that's why I'm here.

Andy Birch of Peoria had been at the front of the line at Best Buy since Tuesday. Why? "The thrill of it," says Birch. "I enjoy having fun on a regular basis. This is just annual fun for me."

Lisa Schweigert of Peoria was having second thoughts as she found herself near the back of the line at Best Buy. "I thought about turning around," says Schweigert. "This is a little long for me, I don't usually wait this long."

Most we talked to said they were cutting back on holiday spending this year, although not dramatically, so they were in line for the best deals.
