Law Enforcement Uses Cemetary Backdrop To Get Point Across About Driving Dangers

Law enforcement will be out in full force again during the extended Thanksgiving holiday season.  High ranking officers from several regional agencies gathered at Springdale Cemetary Monday morning to plead with the public this is not where you or a passenger in your vehicle want to end up this weekend.

District 8 Illinois State Police Commander Lt. Jeff Jacobs says authorities will be specifically out looking for the most common moving violations.  Lt. Jacobs says Thanksgiving is an especially attentive time for officers because colleges and universities are on break.

Jacobs says a three-year study shows college age drivers and passengers make up 27 percent of the fatalities the day before and the day of Thanksgiving.

Jacobs was joined by Peoria Police Lt. Steve Roegge, Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy and IDOT's Alcohol Program Coordinator Shannon Alderman.
