More than 30 years of discussions and work has resulted in the extension of Summit Drive becoming reality. The road now runs all the way from Centennial Drive to Route 8. Officials from East Peoria, Washington and Tazewell County celebrated the completion of construction with a ribbon cutting Tuesday.
Washington Mayor Gary Manier says this is great for the Sunnyland area. Motorists can now go all the way from Route 24 to Route via Grange Road turning into Summit Drive at Centennial.
Officials hope the easier route will lead to more foot traffic at businesses in that area.
