One Peoria fire fighter was treated for burns on his hand while fighting a blaze just south of downtown late Friday afternoon. Fire crews are called to a vacant home at 1528 West Kettelle just after 500pm to the report of a fire. Fire fighters found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the two-story structure.
Most of the fire was centered on a rear porch, but flames spread to the 2nd floor. Crews quickly knocked down the blaze. No on was inside the empty home. The house had been previously boarded up. The injured firefighter was taken of OSF St. Francis Medical Center for treatment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
