Caterpillar is announcing plans to open a new manufacturing facility in North America. Just where it will be located will be decided by the end of the year, but it's expected to employ over 1,000 people. The plant will make small track-type tractors and mini-hydraulic excavators. That production will be moved from Japan to be closer to a larger number of customers for that equipment in North America and Europe. Construction is expected to start during the first half of 2012.
