Congressman Schock discusses Highway Bill in Springfield

His continued push of a plan to fund a federal highway bill took 18th District Congressman Aaron Schock to Springfield Thursday.

The Peoria Republican applauded House Speaker John Boehner for pushing his plan to pay for a highway bill by supplementing Motor Fuel Taxes with domestic energy production from new gas and oil leases. Schock says it will create jobs in the energy industry and make the country less reliant on foreign sources, while created a new revenue stream.

Schock says the bill would be paid for and would not include more borrowing. he believes it would also be more than the $40-billion Highway Bill proposed by the President. The bill would go to fix infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

Schock believes if the bill passes the House, it will have enough support in the Senate and by the President.
