(From WEEK News 25) - About 30 employers met with area veterans at American Legion Post 979 in Bartonville Monday.
Governor Pat Quinn and the Illinois Department of Employment Security are hosting job fairs across the state this week.
Sponsors say more applicants are expected after President Obama announced troops were being pulled from Iraq.
According to the American Legion's Wayne Wagner, veterans still have a good shot in the job market.
"They are used to following procedures," said Wagner, the Senior Vice Commander of the Dept. of Illinois American Legion.
"They're used to showing up on time, and a lot of employers like that. They're dependable workers, good workers, follow instruction, and fit right in with the workforce that they (employers) have."
Steven Aldus served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He says finding work can still be hard for any veteran.
"It's very difficult, very difficult to get back in the loop," said Aldus. " You go from a war situation to now a not-war situation. It's not that easy to do. There's a lot of people who just need to have that helping hand, and things like this are very very good."
The next fair will be at the Bloomington National Guard Armory at 1616 S. Main Street, on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
