If you are listening to the radio, or watching TV Wednesday at 100pm, expect e brief interruption. A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System will be conducted for the first time ever. It will be similar to the weekly of monthly EAS tests you hear or see locally on radio or TV. But this one will include every public communication outlet in the U-S, except the internet.
Wayne R. Miller, JMP Radio Group Chief Engineer this test enters previously uncharted territory. Miller says the system is designed for the President to address the country if a national emergency would ever occur.
The FCC, FEMA and NOAA are coordinating this test. Miller says if the test goes as planned, triggering the switch from the White House should open up all public communication signals through a chain reaction. The test is expected to last about one minute.
