One Dead After Tazewell County Crash

A single-vehicle crash in Tazewell County claimed one life and resulted in a ruptured natural gas line.

Illinois State Police report the accident occurred at 11:49 a.m. Thursday at Route 116 and Ten Mile Creek Road.

A passenger car reportedly left Route 116 and collided with a nearby building at 5509 North Main Street in East Peoria. The crash also severed a natural gas line entering the building.

The driver, who has not been identified, was later pronounced dead at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

The affected building and adjacent businesses were evacuated and Route 116 was closed between Upper Spring Bay Road and Route 26 while Ameren Illinois crews were dispatched to close the gas line.

The accident remains under investigation.
