Non-Profit Group Hopes To Hook More Kids On Fishing

There’s still time to get some fishing in this weekend.

East Peoria’s ‘Hooked On Fishing’ has one goal…”It’s introducing people back to fishing. And, that’s what we’re all about,” said Pat Sullivan with the non-profit group.

Sullivan tells WMBD’s Greg and Dan that this Sunday is another Family Fishing Day at ‘Hooked On Fishing’ Park, and everyone can come fish free of charge.

The park is open for fishing until October 25.

Sullivan says they hope to foster a new love of fishing in all kinds of groups.

“If you have events, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups, veterans, people with disabilities, we want to teach them about fishing,” said Sullivan.

All fishing events with ‘Hooked On Fishing’ are ‘catch and release’, meaning you don’t keep the fish. All equipment and bait are provided.

Reservations for private groups are required.

Sullivan says Kelleher’s in downtown Peoria is holding a fish-fry fundraising event for ‘Hooked On Fishing’ Saturday from 5:00-7:30 p.m. It’s $10 a person, kids under 12 get in for $5. There will be live music as well.
