Heartland Health Services cut the ribbon on a new, Pekin location on Monday.
“We’re gonna provide here, OB services, gynecological services and pediatric services which are much needed here in the Pekin area,” said Heartland Health Services CEO Charles Bandoian.
Bandoin said the hospital targeted Pekin because of need. He says a study revealed a high number of individuals in Pekin have low income and struggle to find healthcare.
“This was a partnership that was planned with OSF (HealthCare). They would handle everything other than moms and babies and we would handle the moms and babies here,” Bandoin said.
Providers at the new site include a certified nurse midwife and a pediatrics doctor.
Bandoin says the new facility could be a gateway to other services. There will be a separate OB site as well.
