(From WEEK News 25) – A rally was held at Peoria’s Gateway Building Friday in support of same-sex marriage.

The diversity and equality group, Peoria Proud, organized the rally.

Those in attendance say the U.S. Supreme Court decision recognizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states should have been made long before Friday.

“(This) decision for us means a major victory,” says Peoria Proud President Marcus Fogliano. “We now have marriage equality nationwide.”

“I think it’s about time and I’m really proud they did this,” said Edward Dunkin. “I’m very excited for the future of America and I think it’s going to set a good example for the rest of the world.”

President Obama personally endorsed same-sex marriage back in 2012.
