Local Politicians Share Inauguration Opinions

Representative Darin LaHood

The feelings on President Donald Trump’s inauguration between Representative Cheri Bustos (D-17) and Representative Darin LaHood (R-18) are a bit contradictory.

Bustos was one of the Democrats who attended the inauguration, wearing a “#ProtectOurCare” button. She says it highlights the positive effect Affordable Health Care had on Americans.

“While I hope to be able to work with the President where we can find common ground, I will also be a watchdog for the men, women and children I serve should President Trump take our country down a dark path,” she said in the statement. “Even though Republicans control the White House, the Senate and the House, I am hopeful that they will listen to those who have the most to lose from their efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.”

Congressman Darin LaHood also attended the 58th Presidential Inauguration on Friday. His view of the event was optimistic.

“It was an honor and privilege to witness the inauguration of President Donald Trump today and the peaceful transition of power our nation prides itself upon within our democratic process. I, particularly, am excited for this new chapter of American history,” stated Rep. Darin LaHood. “I applaud President Trump for putting forth a unifying message to all Americans as we begin to put our nation back on track towards economic prosperity and greatness.”
