July A Record-Breaking Month For Peoria Airport

Peoria’s airport sees its busiest month ever.

July brought two new records for the General Wayne A. Downing International Airport.

It was the busiest July ever, and the busiest month in PIA’s history.

Previously, March held the record for the busiest month–attributed to Spring Break travel.

But, July, with over 61,000 passengers, broke the March record by 406 passengers.

Gene Olsen, Director of Airports, says July figures show travel to Atlanta was up nearly 58-percent from last year, and travel to Phoenix/Mesa was up over 50-percent from 2014.

For three years running, Peoria’s airport has set passenger records. Olsen noted that if trends continue, 2015 is on track to set another record.

Meanwhile, construction is proceeding on the addition to the terminal that will allow for continued growth of the airport’s domestic service, as well as allow for airlines to introduce international travel in Peoria.
