In observance of National Mammography Day, Pekin Hospital will offer free mammograms to women between the ages of 40-64 years old Friday.
Since 2010, 205 Tazewell County women have received a free mammogram on National Mammography Day.
Free screenings will be offered to eligible women from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. at Pekin Hospital Women’s Diagnostic Center. Income or insurance will not impact eligibility. Women with Medicare will be scheduled on a different day.
The goal of National Mammography Day is educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health by practicing regular self-breast exams to identify any changes, scheduling their regular visits and annual mammograms with their healthcare provider.
Tazewell County Health Department and Pekin Hospital Women’s Diagnostic Center have been collaborating on National Mammography Day in October for the last 13 years. In 2014, 23 women were able to receive a free screening for breast cancer at the Mammography Day event.
“Serving 205 women in the last five years by providing free mammograms on National Mammography Day is a great accomplishment. Tazewell County Health Department and Women’s Diagnostic Center at Pekin Hospital are thrilled to offer the best prevention to detecting breast cancer for the 14th year,” said Sara Sparkman, TCHD Communications Manager.
No appointment is necessary. Women should bring proof of age and household income, as well as an insurance card. Women who have Medicare are not eligible for services on National Mammography Day.
