LINCOLN, Ill. – The Illinois River is expected to reach flood stage and beyond later this week.
That’s according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln. A Flood Warning has been issued for the Illinois River at Peoria from Wednesday evening until further notice.
Forecasters say the Illinois River at Peoria was at 12.4 feet as of late Monday morning, but will be at 19.2 feet by Thursday afternoon. Flood stage is 18 feet.
The Weather Service says the flooding will be “minor,” and the river will crest at more than 20 feet Saturday morning.
The Flood warning for the Illinois River at Peoria affects Peoria, Woodford, and Tazewell Counties. Forecasters say those with interests along the river should prepare now for flooding.
The area saw more than four inches of rain over the weekend, mostly Sunday.
Other parts of the Illinois River are also under separate Flood Warnings.
