Final Day For 1505 On The Avenue Residents

The clock continues to tick on residents at 1505 on the Avenue apartment complex.

An “occupancy prohibited” sign was posted by the city Monday afternoon, signaling residents have 24 hours to vacate the building.

The yellow sign read “this building at 1505 N. Peoria… has been declared unfit for human habitation.”

About 45 residents were warned late last week they would have just a few days to vacate the premises.

Monday evening, some residents could be seen loading furniture and other items into trucks.

The City of Peoria says ownership failed to make the apartment habitable following a fire this summer. After repeated attempts to work with the New Jersey-based ownership, the City was forced to declare the apartment unfit.

A resident we spoke with agrees ownership is to blame and doesn’t pin management or the City as the problem.
