Fatal Industrial Accident In Pekin

An industrial accident turns fatal.

Pekin Police say a large, steel beam fell on a man at the Illinois Corn Processing Plant while a crew was tearing down an old corn dryer.

“The large piece of steel fell on him and crushed him,” said Public Information Officer Mike Eeten.

Rescue personnel were dispatched to the plant at 1301 S. Front St. just before 11 A.M.

“The firefighters worked hard to free him, but found that life saving measures were no longer effective,” says Eeten.

Eeten says the corn dryer hadn’t been in use for at least a decade.

The cause of death hasn’t been announced as detectives are questioning other workers to get a better idea of what happened while firefighters work to recover the body.
