Eureka Hosts Ben Zobrist Day

Eureka is taking a day to honor Ben Zobrist.

A celebration will be held on Saturday for the Eureka native and World Series MVP.

“The city of Eureka is extremely proud of how Ben presents the City of Eureka both on and off the field,” says Eureka Mayor Scott Punke.

Punke says a portion of Lake Road will be named after Zobrist. He hopes a big crowd will join Zobrist for a ceremony at 3 p.m. at Upper Eureka Lake Park.

He says the community has been thinking about celebrating Zobrist since he won the award.

“As soon as that had occurred everyone was thinking of ways we could honor Ben. Social media just kind of blew up with ideas.”

Signs honoring Zobrist have also been erected at the four main roadways entering Eureka.

Zobrist will be a guest of honor at the Peoria Rivermen game at Carver Arena later that night.
