Driver Ticketed After Crash Kills Morton Firefighter

A Morton driver has been ticketed for DUI after an accident that killed his passenger.

Morton police say officers responded to a report of a crash at Mossy Tail and Timber Creek at 11:53 p.m. Thursday. The accident involved a moving vehicle and a parked vehicle.

Police say one man was found lying unconscious in the roadway and pronounced dead at the scene.

It was determined the victim, identified as Joshua Greene, 42, of Morton, was the front seat passenger and was ejected from the moving vehicle.

According to the Morton Fire Department Facebook page, Greene had been a Morton firefighter since 2000, serving as a paid on-call member.

The driver, Glen Abney, 52, of Morton, was transported to UnityPoint Health-Methodist with undisclosed injuries.

Police say Abney was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI and aggravated DUI.

The Morton Police Department and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation.
