If you want to rent a bicycle for exercise and recreation in Peoria, Peoria Heights and East Peoria, there is now an app for that.

Enjoy Peoria has partnered with Massachusetts-based Zagster to begin a program called City Cycle in Peoria and East Peoria.

City Cycle cruiser bikes are available at six locations allowing residents aged 18 and over to sign up, through the Zagster mobile app, and use them for on-demand, local trips.

The cost is $3 per hour. Memberships are available at an annual cost of $25 that include the first hour free for each ride. Student memberships cost $16.

City Cycle Peoria locations include: Peoria City Hall, RiverPlex, Upper Bradley Park and Junction City. Other locations include Heritage Square in Peoria Heights and East Peoria’s Levee District.

“It completes well into the complete streets that the City of Peoria is talking about,” said Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, “making our community more pedestrian friendly and bicycle friendly.”

“Most of the planning we’re doing now with new roads and infrastructure involves having bike lanes,” Ardis said.

Ardis say the new road construction project on Sheridan Road will include a bicycle lane when completed.

“With the trails we have joining Peoria, you can ride to the Rock Island Trail and out to Morton,” said East Peoria Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Rick Swan. “You can ride all day if you’d like.”

City Cycle features the Zagster 8, an award-winning bike known for its practical design, comfortable ride and easy handling. The bike includes a basket, automatic lights, a bell and full reflectors.

Bikes can be found via the free Zagster Mobile App, available for iPhone and Android – or online HERE.

Each bike has a unique number that riders enter into the app to disengage the ring lock and docking cable at the touch of a button. (Alternatively, riders can obtain unlock codes via text message to use with an on-bike keypad.)

A retractable cable mounted to the bike allows the bike to be secured to any fixed object throughout the trip for mid-ride stops.

After the rider returns the bike to a designated Zagster bike station, the rental ends and the bike is available for the next person to enjoy.

A rider’s information can also be used in other Zagster City Cycle cities.
