Body Recovered From A Drainage Canal Near Spring Lake

After an overnight search, a Peoria dive team discovers a body in the Spring Lake area.

Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department Captain Tim Gillespie says they began looking for the man Tuesday night, when his vehicle turned up near the lake. His body was discovered eight feet under water about 17 hours later. It was in a drainage canal near Manito.

“We had an indication that maybe he was an avid fisherman, that maybe he could be in the water,” said Captain Gillespie.

The body was discovered around noon on Wednesday. Police believe the death was accidental and think the man may have been fishing. The man won’t be identified until police notify his family.
