PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighters were called around 9:50 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of NE Jefferson on reports of a structure fire.
When they arrived, crews found heavy smoke coming from the first and second floors of the home.
The house appeared to be vacant as it was boarded up and utilities were disconnected. A search found no one inside.
Crews contained the fire to the first floor. The staircase burned out from the second story to the basement, creating an extremely dangerous situation for firefighters.
A fire investigator determined the cause of the fire was arson.
The home was deemed a total loss and was boarded up.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
