The Peoria Community Against Violence has scheduled a Murder Stand Down For Peace.

The Stand Down is designed to be a safe place for people to gather after a homicide to say violence has to stop. The event will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday at the Gateway Building.

PCAV officials say peaceful stand-downs are a powerful way for people to say there is now place in their community for violence.

The Stand Down comes after the weekend shooting death of Jordan Walker. The 20-year-old was shot multiple times on West Millman and pronounced dead later at a hospital.

Additionally, Gabriel Melendez, 61, who had been in a hospital since May 4 after being hit on the head with a mallet, died Saturday night.

Melendez and Walker are Peoria’s third and fourth homicide victims of 2015.
