Weight training is part of the regular training regiments for student-athletes at Bradley University, no matter the sport. Bradley men's basketball coach Geno Ford tells WMBD's Greg and Dan, "Weight lifting has changed in the last five years or so to include core lifting and Olympic-style lifting."
"That's to avoid guys bulking up too much up top and injury prevention."
Ford points to the work done by Cody Roberts who has been head strength and conditioning coach at Bradley since May of 2010.
That's when Roberts finished work on a master's degree in exercise science at the University of Kansas.
"There is an element of randomness to injury, too," says Ford, "but when you're talking strains and pulls and things of that nature the weight room and help."
Bradley hosts Evansville Wednesday at Carver Arena. Live coverage begins with State Bank of Speer Braves Plus Wednesday night at 6 on 1470 WMBD.
